Westchester Family Fun This Week

Looking for something to do with the kids this weekend?

School Is Starting In 90045OK, it’s for real. At my house, school starts on Monday. We’ve pretty much got it together but man, I’m so not ready for Summer to be “over.” How about you?

With a couple days left for adventure and some crazy hot weather headed our way, I present the following ideas for Westchester family fun:

Last call! The beach shuttle is running through 9/28, but the water bus is ending its summer tour on 9/1. Get more info here.

Getty Garden Concerts – Alastair Moock plays the last concert of the season. Called “Tom Waits for your tot,” this event sounds like a perfect way to while away a hot afternoon. Sat. & Sun., 4-5:30 pm. 1200 Getty Center Drive.

Pet Sculpture Workshop – REAL Creative Space pet painting/photography expert, David Walega, will take you step-by-step through creating a unique art piece that you will cherish forever. Open to adults and children of all ages. $25 includes supplies. Sat., 2-5 pm. REAL Creative Space, 6207 W. 87th St., Westchester 90045.

The Banning House Turns 150 – How about a hoe-down? Live music, line dancing and a BBQ buffet provided by The Outdoor Grill. What’s not to like? Sat., 5-8 pm. Wilmington. $5-$35. Reservations required.

Robotics By The Sea – Robots take over the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium! Learn about land and underwater ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles). Free on Sat. from 11am to 3 pm. 3720 Stephen M. White Dr., San Pedro 90731.

Burton Chace Park Summer Concert – Grammy-award winning singer Roberta Flack to perform hits such as “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” and “Tonight I Celebrate My Love.” Sat., 7 pm. Arrive early and bring a picnic.

Festival of Mud – What kid wouldn’t like an excuse to squish some mud between his or her toes? Mud-tastic activities include adobe brick-making, mud relay reaces, clay sculpting, archaeology adventures and more. De-mudding station available for the ride home. Bring old shoes (required), a change of clothing and a towel. $5 for kids, $7 for adults. Sun., 12:30-4:30 pm.

Work Day at Kentwood Players Theatre – Help the Players strike the Sordid Lives set and build the Orphans Row House set. They promise something to do for all skill levels. Sun. at 9 am and a light breakfast and lunch will be served. 8301 Hindry Ave, Westchester 90045.

Concert in the Park | Playa Vista – N’Demand is playing at on Sun. from 5-6:30 pm. Food trucks open at 4 pm and include The Grilled Cheese Truck, The Hurricane Truck and others. No dogs. Concert Park at Playa Vista.
