Westchester Family YMCA To Honor Community Leaders

“The Westchester Family YMCA will honor outstanding members of its organization at its Sixth Annual Kids Need Heroes event. This year’s luncheon will take place on Thursday, September 26.”

The event starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Radisson Hotel LAX. The keynote speaker is LMU’s Center for Urban Resilience Professor Eric Strauss.

Jet to Jetty TOMORROW

jet to jettySaturday, Aug. 24 marks the 29th running of the Jet to Jetty 5K/10K run/walk for mental health.

The Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation is once again sponsoring the event, which benefits Airport Marina Counseling Service.

There will be a 5K walk/run a 10K run, 10-mile and 20-mile family bike rides and a kids’ fun run.

The Conyers Family Gets Their Green On

I couldn’t resist sharing my husband and daughter participating in a beach clean up for Earth Day last Spring.

Around the country, Parsons Brinckerhoff employees, friends and family planted trees, cleaned trash and restored beaches.

Here in LA, volunteers teamed up with The SEA Lab in Redondo Beach for beach clean up, composting education and a bag exchange.

LADWP Issues Scam Alert

scam alertLADWP has issued a Scam Alert warning customers to beware of fraud involving energy efficiency programs.

The Scam: Someone asks for money in advance of providing energy efficiency equipment.

LADWP recommends the following steps to protect yourself:

  • Don’t pay in advance – LADWP does not charge for rebates or direct installation of efficiency upgrades
  • Check ID – All LADWP employees and contractors hired to work for Energy Efficiency Programs wear identity badges
  • Verify LADWP employees – 800-342-5397
  • Verify LADWP contractors – 800-499-8840
  • Verify independent contractors – cslb.ca.gov (contractors licensing board)

If you are a victim of fraud, call the Los Angeles Police Department – 877-ASK-LAPD (877-275-5273).
